Eligibility
To appear for SSC CGL 2026, candidates must meet the following basic eligibility criteria.
The minimum educational qualification is a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university. Some posts require specific qualifications such as Statistics or Finance as part of graduation.
The minimum age is 18 years, while the upper age limit varies depending on the post, usually between 27 to 32 years.
Age relaxation is provided as per Government of India rules:
OBC candidates get 3 years relaxation.
SC/ST candidates get 5 years relaxation.
PwBD and Ex-Servicemen candidates get additional relaxation as per norms.
Candidates must fulfill eligibility conditions before applying. If found ineligible during document verification, candidature will be cancelled.
Application Process
The SSC CGL application process is conducted online through the official SSC website.
Candidates must complete One-Time Registration (OTR) if not previously registered. After logging in, they must fill out the application form carefully, selecting preferred posts and examination centers.
Applicants must upload a recent passport-size photograph and signature as per prescribed specifications.
Application fees are generally applicable to General and OBC male candidates. SC, ST, PwBD, and female candidates are usually exempted from fee payment.

Selection Process
The SSC CGL 2026 selection process consists of the following stages.
Tier 1 is the first stage and is compulsory for all candidates. It is a computer-based objective examination consisting of four sections: General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude, and English Comprehension. Each section carries equal marks. Tier 1 is qualifying in nature for proceeding to Tier 2, but marks are considered in final merit.
Tier 2 is also a computer-based examination. It consists of multiple papers depending on the post applied for. Paper 1 is mandatory for all candidates and includes Mathematical Abilities, Reasoning and General Intelligence, English Language and Comprehension, and General Awareness.
For candidates applying for Junior Statistical Officer (JSO), Paper 2 (Statistics) is required.
For candidates applying for Assistant Audit Officer or Assistant Accounts Officer, Paper 3 (General Studies – Finance and Economics) is required.
Tier 2 plays a crucial role in determining the final merit list.
After Tier 2, shortlisted candidates are called for Document Verification. During this stage, candidates must present original documents related to educational qualification, age proof, category certificate, and other eligibility documents.
Final selection is based on overall performance in Tier 1 and Tier 2, post preference, and category-wise cut-off.
There is no interview stage in SSC CGL for most posts.
Salary
SSC CGL offers attractive salary packages under the 7th Pay Commission.
The salary structure depends on the pay level of the post.
Pay Level 4 posts have a starting basic pay of approximately ₹25,500 per month.
Pay Level 6 posts start at around ₹35,400 per month.
Pay Level 7 posts begin at around ₹44,900 per month.
In addition to basic pay, employees receive Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance, Transport Allowance, and other benefits.
